LATROBE, Pa. - The Thiel College women's soccer team was defeated, 3-0, by the Saint Vincent Bearcats Wednesday afternoon in the Tomcats' first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game of the season.
The Tomcats' and Bearcats' defenses held strong in the first half, with just three shots on goal combined as the teams went into halftime tied at zero. Less than three minutes into the second half, the Bearcats scored the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later (57:40), the Bearcats added another goal and scored once more before the end of the match to win, 3-0.
For the Tomcats, Loren Swords (Lisbon, Ohio/United) registered two shots on goal. Hannah Strott (Mogadore, Ohio/Field) and Bailey Fritz (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) recorded a shot on goal apiece. Goalkeeper Bethany Bonnar (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) tallied three saves and allowed zero goals in the first half. Samantha Hoffman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) notched a save in the second half.
For the Bearcats, Tanisha Grewal scored two goals, one of which was assisted by Hannah Irvine. Irvine added a goal of her own, assisted by Morgan Klingeman and Jessica Persin. Goaltender Kendall Castor totaled three saves in a shutout.
The Tomcats' next game will be on the road against the Geneva Golden Tornadoes on Saturday at 11 a.m.
