DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Thiel College women's soccer team defeated the Defiance Yellow Jackets, 3-0, Saturday afternoon.
 
The Tomcats struck first with a goal 24:38 into the match and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Thiel's defense held the Yellow Jackets without a shot on goal until the 51:34 mark in the second half. The Tomcats scored about 20 minutes into the second half to extend their lead to 2-0 and would add one more to win 3-0.
 
The Tomcats held the Yellow Jackets to just one shot on goal and five total shots in the game, while the Tomcats tallied 14 shots on goal on 23 total shots.
 
Arlene Barreto (Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat Memorial) scored the first goal for the Tomcats and assisted Hannah Strott (Mogadore, Ohio/Field) on the second goal. Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan) added the third goal, assisted by Katlyn Phillips (Hanoverton, Ohio/United). Goaltenders Bethany Bonnar (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) and Samantha Hoffman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) combined for a shutout.
 
For the Yellow Jackets, Ally Enneking recorded two shots, including a shot on goal. Goalkeepers Ryan Lay and Sarah O'Shea totaled seven and four saves, respectively.
 
The Tomcats have now won three of their last four games and will look to keep their momentum going when they begin Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Wednesday on the road against Saint Vincent Bearcats. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
