PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team lost, 2-1, in overtime against the La Roche Redhawks on Tuesday.
The Redhawks opened the scoring just over 30 minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Tomcats struck back with a goal about 10:25 into the second half to tie the game at 1-1. The score remained until the end of regulation. In overtime, the Redhawks scored to win the game 2-1.
The Redhawks outshot the Tomcats 10-2 in the first half, but in the second half, the Tomcats outshot the Redhawks 7-3.
For the Tomcats,
Kelly Clark (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) scored the Tomcats' goal.
Arlene Barreto (Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat Memorial) assisted Clark on the goal. The pair combined for eight shots and five shots on goal.
Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan) and
Bailey Fritz (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) also recorded a shot apiece. Goalkeeper
Samantha Hoffman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) tallied seven saves in the game.
For the Redhawks, Alexis Nudds recorded the game-winning goal, assisted by Kaylyn Cannon. Goalkeeper Bella Costanzo saved one shot and did not allow a goal in the first half and overtime period. Casey Semenko totaled three saves and allowed a goal in the second half.
The Tomcats moved to 2-2-1 on the season and will be back on the pitch Saturday at Defiance. The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
