Tomcats net five goals, complete second consecutive shutout

MONACA, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team won, 5-0, against the Penn State Beaver Lions on Saturday. This was the Tomcats' second consecutive shutout victory as they improved to 2-1-1 on the season.
 
The Tomcats started the scoring with a goal over 15 minutes into the match. Just two minutes later, the Tomcats scored again, and would score twice more to take a 4-0 lead into halftime. Thiel added another goal in the second half to win 5-0.
 
Goals were scored by Kate Sollers (Suffield, Ohio/Field), Loren Swords (Lisbon, Ohio/United), Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan), Emily Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva), and Taylor Warner (Greenville, Pa./Greenville). Katlyn Phillips (Hanoverton, Ohio/United) notched two assists and Arlene Barreto (Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat Memorial) notched one assist. Swords also added an assist. Kelly Clark (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) totaled 13 shots, with eight on goal and Bailey Fritz (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) recorded 11 shots with five on goal. Goaltenders Samantha Hoffman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Bethany Bonnar (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) combined for a shutout.
 
The Tomcats' next game will be at La Roche on Tuesday. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
