GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Thiel College women's soccer team defeated the Bluffton Beavers, 2-0, in a non-conference match Wednesday evening.
The Tomcats opened the scoring early with a goal on a penalty kick off the foot of Kate Sollers (Suffield, Ohio/Field) just over 10 minutes into the contest. The game would remain 1-0 through the first half. In the second half, the Tomcats continued to hold a 1-0 lead until Arlene Barreto (Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat Memorial) added an insurance goal with less than two minutes left to help secure the 2-0 victory.Â
The Tomcats outshot the Beavers 17-7 and recorded eight shots on goal to the Beavers' four. Goalkeeper Samantha Hoffman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) completed her second shutout as a Tomcat with four saves.Â
Along with their goals, Sollers and Barreto notched two and four shots apiece. Taylor Warner (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) recorded an assist on Barreto's goal. Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan) tallied three shots, including a shot on goal. Eight different Tomcats registered at least one shot, with six attempting multiple shots.Â
For the Beavers, Shelby Case attempted two shots, one on goal. Goalkeeper Brielle Collier saved six shots.Â
The Tomcats will look to keep the momentum going when they travel to Monaca to take on the Penn State Beaver Lions on Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.Â
