Tomcats score season-high 25 points in win over Barons

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team defeated the Franciscan Barons, 25-6, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest on Wednesday.
 
The Tomcats held the Barons scoreless for the entire first half and the first 8:17 of the third quarter, allowing the Tomcats to build a 13-0 lead before the Barons got on the board. The Tomcats follow the goal up with another run, scoring six unanswered goals to close out the third quarter leading 19-1. The Tomcats led by as many as 19 points at one point, and would go on to win, 25-6.
 
It was a strong team effort for the Tomcats on offense and defense. Jeffrey Karnoff (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and Pat Hartnett (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) each tallied nine points. Hartnett had five goals and four assists, while Karnoff had four goals and five assists. Hartnett also tied a game-high with 17 ground balls and Karnoff finished with 12 ground balls. Dylan Waskiewicz (York, Pa./Red Lion) also notched 17 ground balls and was 18-for-28 on faceoffs. Bennett Medyn (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra Macedon) scored five goals and compiled 11 ground balls. JJ Raab (Butler, Pa./Butler) recorded six points on two goals and four assists and Dan Senisi (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) scored four goals.
 
On the defensive side, Sheldon Bourdeau (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) caused nine turnovers, a new career high for the senior. Jason Masciantonio (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) recorded 12 saves and allowed just six goals in the match, while holding the Barons scoreless in the first half.
 
For the Barons, Gavin Cook scored three goals. Michael Araps also recorded three points on two assists and one goal. Goalkeeper Grant McKeown saved 13 shots in the game.
 
The Tomcats will look to finish the season strong as they host the Chatham Cougars at Alumni Stadium on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a noon start.
