LATROBE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's tennis team won a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on the road Sunday over the Saint Vincent Bearcats, 5-4.
The win was the second straight for the Tomcats and the third in their last four contests. It was also Thiel's first-ever PAC win over the Bearcats.
Allyson Stanley (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) and
Payton Blankenbeckley (Portsmouth, Ohio/Minford) picked up an 8-0 win for the Tomcats over Hannah Schilpp and Brenda Flores at No. 2 doubles.
Thiel won the match with four wins in singles play, three of which were on third-set tiebreakers.
Natalie Zgurich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) defeated Maura Skelley 1-6, 6-4, 10-3 at first singles while
Sarah Haritos (Wilmington, Del./Concord) topped Schilpp 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3. Blankenbeckley picked up her second win of the day with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 win over Maria Hoh at No. 4.
Reagan Hayne (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) won at sixth singles 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 over Flores.
The PAC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament is scheduled to begin Tuesday with the quarterfinal round.
