GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Thiel College women's tennis team lost, 9-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament to the Grove City Wolverines on Tuesday.
In singles,
Madeline Depalma (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna) was defeated 6-1, 6-4 by Lillian Jeynes at No. 5. At No. 6, Kelsey Coleman topped
Reagan Hayne (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) 6-3, 6-0. In the No. 3 match,
Sarah Haritos (Wilmington, Del./Concord) lost to Alexis Chappel 6-1, 6-2.
Payton Blankenbeckley (Portsmouth, Ohio/Minford) was defeated 6-1 in both sets in the match against Faith Keating for the No. 4 slot. At No. 1 singles Morgan Happe beat
Natalie Zgurich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) 6-1, 6-0.
Allyson Stanley (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) was defeated by Madi Reed in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
For doubles, Stanley and Blankenbeckley were topped by Keating and Jeynes in the No. 2 match, 8-4. Zgurich and Haritos lost to Happe and Reed in No. 1 doubles, 8-1, as Depalma and Hayne were defeated by Chappel and Coleman, 8-0, in the No. 3 match.
The Wolverines will move on to face the second-seeded Franciscan Barons in the semifinals on Friday. This concludes Thiel's women's tennis season, giving them a record of 3-6 overall and 3-5 in PAC play.
