GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games in a doubleheader against Saint Vincent by final scores of 5-4 and 15-6 on Saturday.
In game one, the Tomcats and Bearcats were tied through four innings. The Tomcats took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a
Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) double to score Anthony Sebastion. However, the Bearcats tied the game in the sixth inning, took the lead in the seventh, and held on in the bottom of the seventh to win the seven-inning game one 5-4.
The Bearcats kept the momentum from game one rolling into game two, scoring 13 runs in the first three innings to build an insurmountable lead, ending with a 15-6 final score.
In game one, every Tomcat hitter reached base at least once, with all but one notching a hit.
Trey Williams (Jeromesville, Ohio/Hillsdale) had three hits in the contest. Wentling,
Nash Matson (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong), and
Andrew Giesey (Penn, Pa./Penn Trafford) each recorded two hits apiece.
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) started for the Tomcats and ended with a no decision, tossing six innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks.
Sante Carducci (Toronto, Ohio/Toronto) was charged with the loss after allowing an unearned run in relief.
In game two, 10 different Tomcats recorded hits. Williams added two more hits to his total.
Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley),
Matt Hartzell (Front Royal, Va./Skyline), and
Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) each got an RBI and a pair of hits off the bench. Hartzell and Sittig also scored a run and Sittig hit one of four doubles for the Tomcats in game two.
Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) started the game and was charged with a loss, allowing eight runs (five earned) in 1.1 innings pitched.
Max Siguenza (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) threw 6.1 innings of two-run ball with three strikeouts in relief.
For the Bearcats, Matt Evans had two RBIs and earned the win in 2.1 shutout relief innings in game one. Zack VonStein was 3-for-3 in game one. In game two, Evans was 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBIs. TJ Dailey was 4-for-5 with a home run, triple, three runs and four RBIs. Tom Bash earned the win in game two, pitching six innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts.
The Tomcats will look to bounce back when they travel to Saint Vincent for a doubleheader tomorrow, with game one scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
