GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats women's basketball team was defeated 101-62 by the Geneva Golden Tornadoes in Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown.
The Tomcats got off to a strong start, leading 14-9 with less than a minute to go in the first quarter. The Golden Tornadoes answered with a quick three and layup to close out the first quarter tied at 14.
In the second quarter, the teams traded buckets throughout, with no one leading by more than three until less than two minutes in the half. The Tomcats had a 37-35 lead with 2:11 remaining in the second quarter, but it was quickly erased by a 14-2 Golden Tornadoes run to close out the first half with Geneva leading 49-39. The first half had a total of 17 lead changes and the game was tied nine different times.
In the second half, the Golden Tornadoes continued their momentum from the end of the first half, outscoring the Tomcats 38-17 in the third quarter en route to a victory.
Thiel was led by season highs in points by
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) and
Rachel Breckenridge (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire), who scored 19 and 16 points, respectively. Johnson also netted eight rebounds and a team high 5 steals.
Indea Phillips (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) chipped in eight rebounds as well.
The Golden Tornadoes were led by Abby King with 23 points. Anna Hampshire also recorded 19 points, eight rebounds, and four assists off the bench.
The Tomcats will look to end their losing skid when they host the Franciscan Barons Monday evening at 7 p.m.
