GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats women's basketball team was defeated 78-37 in its home opener by the Washington & Jefferson Presidents in Friday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup.
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) led the Tomcats with 11 points.
Rachel Kaulis (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) chipped in eight points and three rebound in her first home game.
The Presidents got off to a quick start, leading 20-5 after the first quarter, bolstered by a 10-0 run to end the quarter. The Tomcats started the second quarter with five points to bring the game to 20-10, but the Presidents responded with 10 unanswered points and maintained their double-digit lead the remainder of the game.
Washington & Jefferson was led by Piper Morningstar's 15 points, three steals, and four assists. Seven Presidents' players scored at least six points, including three with double-digit point totals.
The Tomcats will look to bounce back Wednesday against the Grove City Wolverines, the defending PAC champions. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
