GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team defeated the Penn State DuBois Nittany Lions, 82-52 in a non-conference game Monday evening.
The Tomcats got a strong start, leading 22-8 after the first quarter. The Lions kept pace with the Tomcats in the second quarter, but the Tomcats still led 37-22 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Tomcats scored 27 points, and led by 21 entering the final quarter. The Tomcats extended their lead and held on to win 82-52, their highest point total and greatest margin of victory this season.
Rachel Breckenridge (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) led the Tomcats with 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including 3-for-8 from beyond the arc and 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) nabbed her second-straight double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson also added four steals, a block, and three assists.
Emily Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) led the Tomcats with eight assists and tallied four steals and eight points.
Sha'nia Stiers-Royal (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown-Fitch) also scored eight points with five rebounds.
For Penn State DuBois, Tara Hinderliter led the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Shannon Shaw also scored 10 points.
The Tomcats will next face the Washington & Jefferson Presidents on Saturday, January 4
th. The road game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
