NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Thiel College women's basketball team lost, 86-36, to the New York University (NYU) Violets in a non-conference game on the first day of the NYU Tip-Off Classic tournament.
 
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) led the Tomcats with 10 points, while also tallying five rebounds and a steal. Emily Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) scored nine points with five rebounds and a steal. Lexy Wagner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) notched eight points with two assists and a steal. Destiny Merriwether (Youngstown, Ohio/East) recorded four points and four rebounds off of the bench for the Tomcats.
 
For the Violets, Erica Miller and Belle Pellecchia scored 15 and 14 points, respectively. Pellecchia also notched five rebounds, five steals, four assists, and a block.
 
The Tomcats will look to bounce back on day two of the NYU tournament tomorrow against the Bridgewater State Bears, starting at 1 p.m.
