GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Grove City Wolverines defeated the Thiel Tomcats Saturday at Alumni Stadium, 56-0.
With the win, the Wolverines retained possession of the Mercer County Cup. Grove City leads the Cup series, 25-12.
Thiel trailed 14-0 at halftime on a pair of touchdown runs of 7- and 10-yards by Clayton Parrish. Parrish scored three more times in the third quarter on runs of 14-, 6- and 10-yards to give the Wolverines a 35-0 lead.
Parrish ran for 160 yards on 26 carries and scored five touchdowns. Zach Trusky carried 15 times for 107 yards and a pair of scores.
Grove City's Josh Ehst completed 10-of-19 passes for 102 yards. He threw two interceptions, both to
Randall Miller (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge).
Miller recorded seven tackles on the day and also broke up a pass.
Darnell Jordan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Westinghouse) led the Tomcats with nine tackles while
X'Zonder Goodwin (Erie, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep) made eight stops.
Owen Trumbull (Bear Lake, Pa./Eisenhower) completed five passes for Thiel for 37 yards.
Tyler Maddox (Girard, Ohio/Girard) ran for nine yards on three carries.
