HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Thiel College women's soccer team was defeated, 3-2, by the Hilbert Hawks in a non-conference match on Thursday.
The Hawks struck first with two goals in a four-minute span at the 19:54 and 23:46 marks. The Hawks' 2-0 lead held for most of the first half until Kelly Clark (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) scored for the Tomcats just before halftime to cut the Hawks' lead to 2-1.
In the second half, the Tomcats tied the game at two on a penalty kick goal by Kate Sollers (Suffield, Ohio/Field) with just under 30 minutes left to play. At the 73:57 mark, Hilbert scored to regain the lead. The Hawks held off the Tomcats to win, 3-2.
Clark and Sollers both scored for the Tomcats and tallied three shots (one on goal) apiece. Arlene Barreto (Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat Memorial) recorded three shots with two on goal. Goalkeeper Samantha Hoffman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) tied a season-high with nine saves in the contest.
For the Hawks, Macy Kisner scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and Grace Zabawa also scored. Hannah Brock totaled three assists. Goalkeeper Tahlia Kosek recorded three saves.
The Tomcats' next game will be a Presidents' Athletic Conference game on the road against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
