BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team outscored the Medaille Mavericks 7-3 in the second half Saturday to earn an 11-5 non-conference win on the road.
Leading by two goals at halftime (4-2), the Tomcats scored four consecutive goals over the roughly the first 17 minutes of the second half to take a commanding 8-2 lead.
JJ Raab (Butler, Pa./Butler) scored a hat trick during the stretch while
Nick Sylvis (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) potted a goal during a man-down situation.
Jeffrey Karnoff (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) led the Tomcats with five points (4G, 1A) on the day. Raab scored three goals while
Sheldon Bourdeau (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) notched three assists, nine ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
Sylvis finished with two goals while
Jack Fontana (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted) won eight faceoff and logged seven ground balls.
Nate Walker and Max Surydk paced the Mavericks with three points apiece.
Cole O'Connor (Midlothian, Va./James River) made 11 saves for Thiel. Mack Baker denied 20 shots for Medaille.
The Tomcats (3-3) will face the Allegheny Gators on the road on Saturday. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
