FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team improved to 5-2 on the season Saturday after defeating the Olivet Comets 8-4 during play in the Gene Cusic Classic.
The Tomcats built up an 8-0 lead Saturday.
Anthony Sebastian (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) accounted for the first two runs when he hit a 2-RBI double in the first inning.
Dylan Gurski (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) extended the lead to 3-0 in the second when he hit a solo homer to center field.
Nash Matson (Kittanning, Pa./Armstrong) hit a run-scoring single in the fourth. In the fifth,
Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley) hit an RBI-double while the Tomcats added another run on an error.
Christian Aldrich (Cranberry Township, Pa./Central Catholic) closed out scoring for the Tomcats in the sixth when he hit a 2-run home run.
Sebastian went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Gurski and Aldrich each hit a home run.
Matt Gayda (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) improved to 2-0 on the season. Through seven innings, he allowed two runs.
The Tomcats will conclude play in the Gene Cusic Classic on Sunday when they face the Hiram Terriers at 9 a.m.
