WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on the road Wednesday to the Washington & Jefferson Presidents, 74-65.
The Tomcats trailed the Presidents by 14 points (41-27) at halftime. Thiel cut the lead down to six points twice in the second half, but W&J held on down the stretch to preserve the conference win.
Sophomore forward
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) led the Tomcats with a career-high 23 points. He also pulled down a game-best 11 rebounds and recorded a pair of steals. It was his third double-double of the season. Tejumola made 6-of-14 shots from the floor and connected on 11-of-16 shots from the free throw line.
Thiel's
Chima Omeihe (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista Community) scored 13 points off the bench and grabbed six rebounds while
Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) scored 10 points to go along with seven rebounds.
Primo Zini led W&J with 19 points. Cameron Seemann scored 14 points and recorded five rebounds.
The two teams combined for 51 fouls, 30 by Thiel and 21 by W&J. Thiel made 20 of its 28 shots from the charity stripe while W&J made 27-of-38 shots from the line.
The Tomcats edged the Presidents in points in the paint (32-20), bench points (28-18) and second-chance points (13-6). W&J led Thiel in fast break points (26-16) and points off turnovers (21-11).
Thiel fell to 2-2 in PAC play with the loss while W&J improved to 3-2 with the win.
The Tomcats will host the Chatham Cougars Saturday at Beeghly Gymnasium. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
