GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Bethany Bison 53-49 on Saturday.
Bethany jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Colleen Trainer (Latrobe, Pa./Mount Pleasant) found Rachel Breckenridge (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) who drained a three-point shot cutting into the Bison lead, 4-3 with six minutes left in the first quarter. Bethany led Thiel 12-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The Tomcats spent the second quarter clawing their way back into the game and eventually established a 19-17 lead of their own after Courtney Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) sank a three-pointer with 1:09 remaining in the half. The Bison cashed in on back-to-back layups stealing the lead, taking their 21-19 edge into the break.
Harriman and Trainer led Thiel in the third quarter as the Tomcats outscored the Bison 18-16, tying the game at 37 heading into the final frame.
Thiel dominated the beginning of the fourth quarter using an 8-5 run to jump out to a 45-42 lead with 5:48 remaining in regulation. Bethany countered with an 11-4 run of their own to secure the road win.
Harriman finished with 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field. Breckenridge added nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Bethany was led by Haylie Glass who scored a game-best 13 points.
The Tomcats will be in action on Monday when they host the Saint Vincent Bearcats. The PAC contest is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
