ANGOLA, Ind. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team concluded play Saturday in the Off the Block Grow the Game Challenge, hosted by Trine University.
Thiel fell 3-0 to Concordia (Wis.) and 3-1 to Mount Union on Saturday. The Tomcats fell to the Concordia Falcons 25-23, 25-20, 28-26. The Mount Union Purple Raiders won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-18. Thiel won 25-23 in the third game, but Mount Union held on to win 25-23 in the fourth set.
Mitch Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led the Tomcats with 12 kills against the Falcons while
Chance Hoffman (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) recorded 25 assists and 10 digs. James Althoff led the Falcons with 17 kills while Matthew Korman tallied 32 assists.
Patterson recorded a contest-best 20 kills against Mount Union while Hoffman led all players with 41 assists.
D'ondre Merren (Brooklyn, Md./North County) chipped in with 10 digs. Justin Sibbel led the Purple Raiders with 15 kills.
Thiel will compete in the Nazareth Invitational Feb. 7-8. On Friday, Feb. 7, the Tomcats will face the Wells College Express at 4 p.m. and the Johnson & Wales Wildcats at 8 p.m.
