GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Chatham Cougars Saturday at Beeghly Gymnasium, 73-63.
The Tomcats started the game on fire, building up a 12-point lead (14-2), their largest of the game, with 4:59 remaining in the first quarter. In spite of Thiel's strong start, Chatham managed to trail by just one point (14-13) at the end of the first quarter and outscored Thiel 27-9 in the second quarter to hold a 40-23 lead at halftime.
The Cougars went on to lead by as many as 27 points late in the third quarter. Thiel cut the lead down to nine points late in the fourth quarter, but would get no closer.
Senior guard
Courtney Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) led the Tomcats with a career-high 19 points. She made 7-of-13 shots from the floor and 4-of-7 from beyond the three-point line. Sophomore forward
Bailee Gregor (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and freshman guard
Nielah Jones (Baltimore, Md./Catholic ) also recorded career-highs with 13 points apiece. Gregor and Jones both made a trio of three-pointers. Sophomore guard
Rachel Breckenridge (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) led Thiel with eight rebounds.
Emily Ondo recorded a double-double for the Cougars. She notched game-highs in points (21) and rebounds (14). Riley D'Angelo scored 18 points while Kaitlyn Fertig scored 15 points and corralled eight rebounds.
The Tomcats will be back in action Wednesday when they host the Grove City Wolverines at Beeghly Gymnasium. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
