LATROBE, Pa. – The second-seeded Thiel Tomcats defeated the third-seeded Westminster Titans 2-1 Thursday morning during the opening game in the 2019 PAC Softball Championship Tournament, which is being held at Saint Vincent College.
Thiel will face the winner of top-seeded Saint Vincent and fourth-seeded Geneva at 4 p.m. today in Game D of the tournament.
Thiel scored both of its runs in the first inning.
Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) drove in the first run of the game on a single to center field.
Bailey Hoover (Smock, Pa./Uniontown) went on to drive in Kelley on a single down the right field line.
Westminster scored its lone run in the third inning.
Kelley earned the win. She allowed one earned run on four hits with one strikeout in seven innings.
Hoover went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.
The winner of Game D this afternoon will play in the conference championship game Friday at 1 p.m. The if-necessary game, Game G, would be played at 3 p.m.
