GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team defeated the La Roche Redhawks in non-conference action at Alumni Stadium Monday night, 19-5.
Nick Sylvis scored the first goal of the game for the Redhawks but the Tomcats responded with five consecutive goals and never looked back the rest of the way.
Jeffrey Karnoff (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) led the Tomcats with six goals and added an assist for a 7-point game.
Andrew Monks (Butler, Pa./Butler) (4G, 1A) and
JJ Raab (Butler, Pa./Butler) (2G, 3A) both finished with five points.
Desmond Stuart (Roanoke, Va./Salem) (2G, 2A) finished with four points while
Kenny Hill (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) (2G, 1A) contributed three points.
Andrew Miller (Macedon, N.Y./Penfield) scored a goal, picked up six ground balls and caused four turnovers.
Jack Fontana (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted), who tallied two assists, won 18-of-27 faceoffs and led the Tomcats with 14 ground balls.
Nick Sylvis paced the Redhawks with four goals and an assist.
Michael Purnell (Tipp City, Ohio/Bethel) made eight saves and earned the win. Chris Sylvis made 24 saves for La Roche.
The Tomcats (5-5) will take on the Franciscan Barons on the road Wednesday. The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
