BEREA, Ohio – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of non-conference games on the road Tuesday to the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets. Thiel lost the first game 2-1 before falling 9-1 in the second game.
Alexis Boledovic gave the Yellow Jackets the only runs they would need in the first game when she hit a 2-run homer in the third inning.
Thiel cut the lead in half in the fourth.
Allyssa Kidwell (Fort Mohave, Ariz./Mohave Accelerated) got the Tomcats started with a 1-out double to left center field.
Leah Woytek (Hillsville, Pa./Mohawk) went on to drive in Kidwell with a 2-out single down the left field line.
The Tomcats, who outhit the Yellow Jackets 10-7, stranded five runners over the final three innings.
Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) led Thiel with three singles in the first game. Woytek,
Miranda Reesman (Vandergrift, Pa./Leechburg) and Kidwell each collected two hits. One of Reesman's hits was a double.
Kelley took the loss. She allowed two runs on seven hits. She struck out three batters and refused to issue a walk.
Baldwin Wallace scored nine runs in the second inning of the second game.
Megan Hepler (West Sunbury, Pa./Moniteau) drove in Thiel's run in the fourth inning on a single to right center field.
The Tomcats will be back in action Thursday when they host the Allegheny Gators. The first game of the non-conference twinbill is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
