LATROBE, Pa. - The Thiel College men's basketball team ended their season on Tuesday with a 80-58 loss to Saint Vincent College in the Quarterfinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships.
The eighth-seeded Tomcats grabbed an early 2-0 lead as
Alonzo Brown (Largo, Fla./Pinellas Park) scored on a fast-break layup before Saint Vincent answered with a bucket on their next possession to even the game.
Saint Vincent went on to build a 21-12 lead at the midway point of the first half. The Bearcats took a 42-20 lead into the locker room.
The Tomcat offense began to click in the second as Thiel went five for five on three-point field goals to start the half.
Terrance Holloway (Farrell, Pa./Farrell) went three of four from beyond the arc, while
Daquan Simmons (Capitol Heights, Md./Central) went four for eight from three on the night.
Despite Thiel's hot shooting in the second the Tomcats were unable to close the gap. Saint Vincent continued find a way to score as they shot 57 percent from the field in the second.
The first-seeded Bearcats went on to take the PAC quarterfinal matchup by a final score of 80-58. SVC had three scorers in double-digits as Tom Kromoka and Mike Simmons each collected a game-high 19 points, while David Stephen added 18 points on the night.
For the Tomcats,
Nyric Gosley (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) collected a season and team-high 16 points in the playoff loss. Simmons and Holloway added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
With the loss, Thiel is officially eliminated from the 2019 PAC Championship Tournament.
