BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Thiel College women's basketball team fell Friday to the Villa Maria Vikings 79-45 in its first game in the Betty Abgott Tournament, hosted by Buffalo State College.
Courtney Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) and
Indea Phillips (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding ) led the Tomcats' offensive efforts with eight points a piece. Harriman added three rebounds and two steals to her performance. Phillips grabbed 12 boards and handed out two assists.
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds in the loss. Along with her rebounds, Johnson finished the day with six points, a pair of assists and steals and one block.
Four Villa Maria players recorded double-digit point performances in the win. The Vikings were led by Dakaylah Winfield, who scored a game-high 21 points.
The Tomcats will take on the Buffalo State Bengals in the consolation game of the Buffalo State Betty Abgott Invitational on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
