Thiel blanks Penn State-Beaver

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Thiel College women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 non-conference win over Penn State-Beaver on Wednesday.

After Thiel earned a corner kick in just the eighth minute of the game, free kick specialist Emma Polinski (Brunswick, Ohio/Trinity) placed a perfect ball to Emily Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) who headed the ball out of the air over the goalkeeper's glove for the first goal of the game.

The Tomcats would take the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

Thiel came out of the gates in the second half when Allison Hamilton (Norton, Ohio/Norton) found Nicole Pereksta (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) across the box who put the ball in the back of the net, doubling the Tomcat lead in the 53rd minute.

Less than ten minutes later, Arlene Barreto (Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat Memorial ) connected with Marissa Ramirez (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele) who scored her second goal on the season to increase Thiel's lead to 3-0.

In the 74th minute, Polinski put a free kick in to Thiel's offensive zone which the Nittany Lions failed to clear.  Barreto would take advantage of the defensive mishap and scored her fourth goal of the season, giving Thiel the 4-0 advantage.

Less than a minute later Barreto found Kate Sollers (Suffield, Ohio/Field) who blasted the ball past the goalkeeper increasing Thiel's lead to 5-0. Two minutes later Polinski took advantage of a penalty kick to secure the home victory.

Defensively, Thiel's back line only allowed four shots in the win. Bethany Bonnar (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) and Grace Adams (Cleveland, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) each recorded a save preserving the shutout.

The Tomcats will be back action on Saturday when they face the Bethany Bison on the road. The Presidents' Athletic Conference contest is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
