GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team earned a 68-59 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win Saturday over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Thiel held a 37-33 lead at halftime and secured a 10-point lead (47-37) with 6:41 remaining in the third quarter after
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) scored on a layup. The Yellow Jackets cut the lead down to a single point twice in the fourth quarter. Down stretch,
Danyelle Lucido (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) iced the game for the Tomcats by making 4-of-4 shots from the free-throw line with less than 30 second remaining in regulation.
Johnson, a freshman forward, scored a game-high 22 points for the Tomcats and corralled 11 rebounds to record her 11
th double-double of the season.
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) also tallied a double-double with 17 points and a game-best 16 rebounds.
Rachel Breckenridge (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) and
Courtney Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) contributed nine and seven points, respectively.
Monica Starre led Waynesburg with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Haley Porter scored 14 points while Brooke Fuller scored 10 points.
The Tomcats will host the Geneva Golden Tornadoes Wednesday. The PAC game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Beeghly Gymnasium.
