GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team tied 1-1 with Medaille College in a nonconference matchup at Alumni Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
A go-ahead goal in the 80' by
Maddie Sollers (Suffield, Ohio/Field) was not enough to preserve the win as Medaille's Kristen Kline scored just a minute later in the 81' off a break away that left her one-on-one with Tomcat Goalkeeper
Shay Tresler (Fairview, Pa./Fairview), Kline buried the ball in the far corner for the equalizer. Sollers' goal was assisted by
Madison Acor (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston).
Despite several chances late in the match, Thiel was unable to score as the two teams headed to overtime. In overtime, the Tomcats collected just one shot but were able to fend off the Maverick attack to force the game to end in a draw after two overtime periods.
Thiel outshot Medaille 12-6 on the day, as
Mackenzie Quinn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and
Nicole Pereksta (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) each collected three shots in the tie. Tresler made made two saves and allowed just one goal in 110 minutes of play.
With the tie, Thiel now sits at 1-6-1 overall. The Tomcats return to action on Saturday as they host Heidelberg University for a nonconference match at Alumni Stadium beginning at 2:00 p.m.
