Thiel defeats Davis & Elkins during Senior Day

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team concluded the 2018 season Saturday night with a 14-10 non-conference win over the Davis & Elkins Senators at Alumni Stadium.
 
Thiel led 6-4 at halftime but Davis & Elkins opened the second half on a 5-1 run to claim a 9-7 lead with a little more than 17 minutes remaining in regulation.
 
Trailing by two goals the Tomcats went on to score seven consecutive goals over roughly eight minutes to secure the non-conference win.
 
Mackenzie Quinn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) led the Tomcats with six goals while Paige Scherer (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) netted four goals. Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) recorded a hat trick while Kristyn Kinner (Alba, Pa./Troy) chipped in with one goal.
 
Quinn tallied her 100th career point Saturday on her fifth goal of the game, which came with 11:52 remaining in the second half.
 
Scherer, who eclipsed the 100-point mark against Hanover on Sunday, April 22, scored her 100th career goal Saturday, which gave the Tomcats a 10-9 lead with 9:58 remaining in regulation.
 
Gabby Fagan paced the Senators with four goals while Casey Johnson contributed three goals.
 
Kyra Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) made 16 saves for the Tomcats to record her fifth win of the season. Farrell made 156 saves on the season, the second most in a single season in program history. She made 279 career saves, which also ranks second in program history.
 
Farrell, Deanna Shaw (York, Pa./Eastern York) and Sweeny were honored prior to Saturday's game during senior day.
 
Thiel finished the 2018 season 6-9 overall and 5-6 in the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC).
