CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Thiel College softball team dropped its final Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season doubleheader to Thomas More College on Saturday. The Saints took game one 3-2 and game two 10-2 in five innings.
In game one,
Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) opened the game with a two-run homer to left field that gave the Tomcats an early 2-0 advantage in the first.
The Tomcat offense would only collect three more hits off Thomas More starter Alix DeDreu in game one.
The Saints plated a run in the third to pull within one before DeDreu singled through the left side to tie the game 2-2 in the fifth.
Both teams went scoreless in the sixth before the Saints took the plate in the seventh. Thomas More's Andrea Gahan recorded a one-out double down the line before advancing to third on a ground out. With two outs, Kenzi Dickerson singled down the line to score the winning run to give the Saints the win in game one, 3-2.
Tomcat starter
Shannon Baker (Corry, Pa./Corry) threw a complete game and allowed just three runs.
Game two saw the Tomcats get out to another fast start as
Quinn Ursprung (Bel Air, Md./C Milton Wright) blasted her first home run of the year in the second.
Bailey Hoover (Smock, Pa./Uniontown) added a RBI-triple to right field to make it 2-0 Thiel in the third.
Despite the early lead the game got away from the Tomcats in the fifth as the Saints poured in 10 runs in the inning to end the game.
Falce collected three hits and two RBIs on the day.
With the losses, Thiel fell to 12-22 overall and 7-11 in conference play.
