Tomcats rout Lions

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team defeated the Mount St. Joseph Lions Saturday at Alumni Stadium, 20-3.
 
Thiel improved to 7-6 overall and 5-3 in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) play with the win. It was the Tomcats' third straight win and their sixth win in the last seven games.
 
Four Tomcats recorded four points Saturday, including JJ Raab (Butler, Pa./Butler) (3G, 1A), Jared Saffer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) (2G, 2A), Shawndel Evans II (New Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) (3G, 1A) and Kyle Reib (Erie, Pa./McDowell) (2G, 2A).
 
Jack Fontana (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted), who recorded an assist and a game-best 13 ground balls, went a perfect 25-for-25 in the faceoff circle. Defender Desmond Stuart (Roanoke, Va./Salem) recorded eight ground balls while Murphy Wood (Austin, Texas/LC Anderson) scooped up six ground balls and caused four turnovers.
 
Cole O'Connor (Midlothian, Va./James River) made seven saves for the Tomcats to earn his seventh win of the season. Mike Weil made 11 saves for the Lions.
 
Jesse Purdy paced the Lions with two goals.
 
The Tomcats will be back in action Wednesday when they host the Westminster Titans at Alumni Stadium. The ORLC game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
