BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Thiel College men's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Southern Virginia University on Friday night in a Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) match.
Despite running out to a 6-2 lead in the first set, Thiel fell 25-20 to fall behind one set to none. The Tomcats came out strong in the second set as they were tied with the Knights 8-8 before Southern Virginia went on a 17-11 run to take the second set 25-19. In the third, the Knights led the Tomcats wire to wire taking the set and the match 25-18.
Southern Virginia's defense stifled Thiel's offense as no Tomcat recorded double-digit kills.Â
Leaders for the Tomcats included Jacob DeRue (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) with eight kills and Stephen Borgen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) added 18 assists.
The Tomcats will conclude the regular season against CVC opponent Juniata College on April 6. The conference matchup is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Huntingdon, Pa.Â
