O’Shea lifts Tomcats over Cougars in OT

Evans II records hat trick

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Brennen O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored 1:45 into overtime on a pass from Shawndel Evans II (New Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) to lift the Thiel College men's lacrosse team to a 7-6 Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) win over the Chatham Cougars Wednesday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.

O'Shea staked the Tomcats to an early first-quarter lead after receiving a pass from Jared Saffer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills). Thiel went on add three more goals, two by Evans and one by Andrew Monks (Butler, Pa./Butler), to take a 4-0 lead.

Dillon Dugan got the Cougars on the scoreboard late in the first when he scored on a man advantage. The cougars and Tomcats went on to trade goals over the remainder of the second, and the Tomcats went into halftime with a 5-2 lead led by Evans who notched a hat trick in the first 30 minutes.

Chatham's Adam Bleess scored the lone goal in the third quarter to cut the lead down to 5-3. Kyle Reib (Erie, Pa./McDowell) got that goal back early in the fourth quarter when he scored on a helper from Sheldon Bourdeau (Clarkston, MI/Clarkston).

However, the Cougars rattled off three consecutive goals late in the fourth to force overtime, which set the stage for O'Shea's game-winner.

Evans led the Tomcats with four points (3G, 1A). O'Shea scored two goals, the first and last in the game. Bleess paced the Cougars with three points (2G, 1A).

Cole O'Connor (Midlothian, Va./James River) made 16 saves and earned the win for the Tomcats. Kyle Peterson made 17 saves for the Cougars.

The Tomcats will take on the Earlham Quakers on the road Saturday. The ORLC game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
