HANOVER, Ind. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team lost an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) game on the road Sunday to the Hanover Panthers, 8-7.
Thiel trailed Hanover 6-3 at halftime and 8-5 after three quarters but made a late comeback attempt.
Jeffrey Karnoff (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scored an unassisted goal with 3:30 remaining in regulation to cut the lead down to two goals.
JJ Raab (Butler, Pa./Butler) got the Tomcats within a goal with 26 seconds remaining when he buried a pass from
Brennen O'Shea (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) during a man-advantage opportunity.
Thiel won the critical ensuing faceoff.
Shawndel Evans II (New Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) got a shot off before the final buzzer, but the ball clanged off the crossbar and the Panthers held on for the conference win.
Raab tallied a hat trick for the Tomcats. Karnoff (2G) and O'Shea (1G, 1A) chipped in with two points apiece.
Joseph DeLeo led the Panthers with three points (2G, 1A).
Cole O'Connor (Midlothian, Va./James River) made eight saves for Thiel while Hanover's Noah Dubrava made 15 saves.
The Tomcats will return to action Wednesday when they host the Chatham Cougars at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The ORLC game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
