NEWARK, N.J. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) foe Rutgers-Newark.
The Tomcats fared well in the first set able to keep up with the Scarlet Raiders offense as they found themselves down 10-8 in the early going. Rutgers-Newark went on to take the set 25-18.
The Scarlet Raiders then went on dominate the next two sets holding the Tomcats to single digit scores in each.
Leaders for the Tomcats included
Mitchell Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) with six kills and nine digs as well as
Jonathan Burkley (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf) with three blocks.
Stephen Borgen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) added 16 assists on the night.
With the loss, Thiel drops to 4-7 and 0-5 in the CVC.
The Tomcats are back in action on Saturday as they face CVC opponent Ramapo College at 10:00 a.m. and Arcadia University at noon in a non-conference matchup.
