PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team defeated Chatham University 3-2 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup on Thursday night.
The Tomcats dropped the first set (25-18) before rallying back to take the second (25-15) and third (25-20) sets to gain a two to one advantage heading into the fourth.
The Cougars would answer in the fourth taking the set 25-17 to force a match deciding fifth set. In the fifth, Thiel was knotted up with Chatham 6-6 before rattling off nine unanswered points to take the set 15-6 and the match 3-2.
As a team the Thiel hit .168 on the night and three Tomcats collected double-digit kills as Brie Bialto (13), Kasey Kohler (New Springfield, Ohio/Springfield Local) (12), and Jessica Kelley (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) (10) led the offense.
Courtney Grubbs (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) earned a match-high 46 assists while Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) racked up 25 digs in the five-set victory.
With the win, The Tomcats improve to 13-15 overall and 6-7 in the PAC.
The Tomcats are back in action tomorrow as they face Westminster College and Hilbert College in a tri-match at Beeghly Gymnasium, first serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
