GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game Saturday to the Bethany Bison at Beeghly Gymnasium, 81-76.
The Tomcats led at halftime (45-36) and at the end of the third quarter (65-51). Thiel's biggest lead in the game was a 17-point edge with 57 seconds remaining in the third quarter. However, the Bison went on to outscore the Tomcats 30-11 in the fourth quarter to earn the conference victory.
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) scored a game-high 42 points for the Tomcats while securing nine rebounds. Her 42-point effort was the fourth best in a single game in the history of Thiel's women's basketball program. Amber Bodrick set Thiel's single-game points record on Jan. 25, 2006 with a 51-point effort in a 92-89 win over Bethany.
Vormelker also recorded two steals and two blocks Saturday.
Alivia Sidley (Thompson, Ohio/Ledgemont) scored 19 points while registering four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Kelsea Daugherty notched a double-double for the Bison with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Ashley Duthie scored 14 points with six rebounds while Makayla Reynolds tallied 12 points. Haylie Glass also contributed 10 points.
The Tomcats will return to action Wednesday when they take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats on the road. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
