GREENVILLE, Pa. – Thiel College junior guard
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) scored her 1,000
th career point Saturday in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Vormelker's 1,000
th point was recorded with 5:57 remaining in the first quarter. After receiving a pass to the right of the top of the key, she drove to the hoop with her right hand and finished with a soft layup that kissed the glass and tickled the twine on the way down.
Vormelker is the 15
th player in program history to score 1,000 career points. She joins recent graduates on the list, including Jaclyn Watkins, Kelly Barzak and the team's assistant coach,
Kelly Muffley.
Though the Tomcats were defeated 84-66 by the Yellow Jackets Vormelker netted a game-best 23 points and led her team with eight rebounds. Vormelker also contributed four steals and three assists.
Courtney Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) scored a career-high 14 points and tallied five rebounds for the Tomcats while
Taylor Duchon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) scored 12 points and
Alivia Sidley (Thompson, Ohio/Ledgemont) recorded nine points.
Addy Knetzer led the Yellow Jackets with 19 points while coming up with nine rebounds. Monica Starre tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Erin Joyce scored 17 points while Rachel Eng scored 14 points.
The Tomcats will return to action Wednesday when they take on the Geneva Golden Tornadoes on the road. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
