ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team picked up another win at the Elmira Invitational over Kekua College 3-0 before dropping a 3-1 decision to Wells College on Saturday.
In Thiel's win, a 3-0 sweep of Keuka College the offense was firing on all cylinders as offense collected a .379% hitting percentage to power the Tomcats past the Wolves.
Jacob DeRue (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport)'s 12 kills were a game-high as well as
Stephen Borgen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area)'s 37 assists.
Thiel fell to Well College 3-1 only taking the third set 25-18 to force a fourth set which Thiel would drop 25-18.
In the Tomcats' loss,
Mitchell Patterson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and DeRue each collected 11 kills apiece. Borgen continued to rack up the assists with 35 in four sets.
After Saturday's results Thiel sits at 3-2 overall on the season.
Thiel will return to the court on Wednesday as they travel to Hiram College to face the Terries in a non conference matchup set to begin at 7 p.m.
