GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team dropped a non conference game to Oberlin College at Beeghly Gymnasium on Monday night. The Yeowomen outscored the Tomcats 80-56.
Oberlin doubled up the Tomcats in the first quarter to take a 20-9 lead. The Tomcats with 12 first half points from
Jess Vormelker (Orwell, Ohio/Grand Valley) found themselves down only 14 going into the half.
The Yeowomen continued their strong shooting performance in second half hitting 6 of 9 from beyond the arc to keep the lead.
Thiel found themselves within 10 late in the third quarter before an offensive outburst from Oberlin kept the Tomcats from closing in.
Three Tomcats were in double figures on the night as Vormelker had a game-high 21 points and both
Alivia Sidley (Thompson, Ohio/Ledgemont) and
Sarah Nagy (Hadley, Pa./Commodore Perry) scored 14 points apiece.
The Yeowomen had their own trio of double digit scorers as Alex Stipano, Abby Andrews and Olivia Canning each scored over 14 in the win.
The Tomcats are back in action on Wednesday as they face Thomas More College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup at Beeghly Gymnasium, tipoff is set for 5:30.
