Box Score 4 MARIETTA, Ohio – The Thiel College women's volleyball team competed in the River City Classic hosted by Marietta College this past weekend and finished 1-3 in the tournament.
After getting swept on day one by Oberlin College (24-26, 24-26, 14-25) and falling to West Virginia Tech in four sets (7-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-27), Thiel bounced back with a win over Emory & Henry College before falling to Marietta in five sets on day two.
The Tomcats lone win against Emory & Henry College came in a 3-0 sweep of the Wasps (25-21, 25-20, 25-12). Junior outside hitter
Peyton Allen (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) and Junior middle blocker
Shelby Friedel (Columbia Station, Ohio/Columbia) both tied for the team-high in kills with eight in the game.
Senior defensive specialist
Megan Sweeny (Freeport, Pa./Freeport Area) collected a team high 14 digs in the win and was named to the All-Tournament Team, while senior
Morgan Reisz (Canonsburg, Pa./Bishop Canevin) and freshman
Olivia Scott (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) both collected 13 digs a piece, Scott also dished out 26 assists.
The Tomcats next match is against the College of Wooster on the road in a non-conference matchup on Sept. 6 at 7:00 p.m.
