CRESSON, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team was defeated 4-3 in overtime Sunday on the road against the Mount Aloysius Mounties.
Neither team scored in the first half but the Tomcats scored a pair of goals less than five minutes apart early in the second half.
Emma Polinski (Brunswick, Ohio/Trinity) scored Thiel's first goal on a pass from
Mackenzie Quinn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) in the 60
th minute. Quinn also picked up the helper on
Kaytee Candela (Ashtabula, Ohio/Lakeside)'s goal, which gave the Tomcats a 2-0 lead.
Summer Schell cut the lead in half on a penalty kick in the 66
th minute while Cheyenne Kuncher knotted the score at 2-2 in the 71
st minute.
Nicole Pereksta (Parma Heights, Ohio/Valley Forge) scored the go-ahead goal for the Tomcats at the 76:27 mark, but Kuncher forced overtime when she scored her second goal of the game with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation.
Skylar Taylor went on to score the game-winner for the Mounties with just three seconds remaining in the first overtime session.
Polinski, Candela and Pereksta each scored a goal for the Tomcats while Quinn tallied a pair of assists. Kuncher scored two goals for the Mounties.
Chimamaka Palmer (Northfield, Ohio/Mayfield) made six saves for the Tomcats while Leanne Cardoso-Basto denied six shots for the Mounties.
The Tomcats will face the Medaille Mavericks on the road Wednesday. The non-conference game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
