Ramirez, Hamilton score first goals of season

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team was defeated 4-2 on the road Sunday by the La Roche Redhawks.
 
Marissa Ramirez (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele) scored her first goal of the season 3:25 into the contest to give the Tomcats an early lead. Kaytee Candela (Ashtabula, Ohio/Lakeside) earned the assist on the opening goal.
 
La Roche tied the game up roughly four minutes later when Allesandra Perri scored on a pass from Kerri Phillis. Tea Miksch scored the go-ahead goal for the Redhawks in the 18th minute.
 
Phillis extended La Roche's lead to two goals 18 seconds into the second half when she found the back of the net off of Daisha Reed's feed.
 
Allison Hamilton (Norton, Ohio/Norton) knocked in her first goal of the season in the 75th minute to cut the lead in half, but Phillis scored her second goal of the game two minutes later to secure the win for La Roche.
 
Phillis finished the game with five points on two goals and an assist. Ramirez and Hamilton each scored a goal for the Tomcats while Candela added an assist.
 
Victoria Villano (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) made four saves for the Tomcats in 78 minutes of work. Jessica Welka and Isabelle Orange combined to make six saves for the Redhawks.
 
The Tomcats will return to action Wednesday when they host the Hilbert Hawks at Alumni Stadium. The non-conference game will begin at 5 p.m.
