Kelley, Falce named to PAC All-Tournament Team

Titans top Tomcats in eight innings, 4-3

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Thiel Tomcats were eliminated from the PAC Championship Tournament Saturday morning after suffering a 4-3 loss to the Westminster Titans in eight innings.
 
After five scoreless innings freshman third baseman Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) staked the Tomcats to a 2-0 lead when she hit a 2-RBI double to right field. Westminster came right back in the bottom of the sixth with two runs of their own on Addie Dieterich's double down the left field line.
 
The Tomcats reclaimed the lead 3-2 in the top of the seventh on Leah Woytek (Hillsville, Pa. /Mohawk)'s infield hit, which scored Miranda Reesman (Vandergrift, Pa./Leechburg). However, the Titans were able to even the score in the bottom of the frame on Kailey Liverman's run-scoring single.
 
Thiel was retired in order in the eighth, and the Titans earned the win in the bottom of the inning on Kayla Troxil's RBI-single to left center field.
 
Woytek and Reesman led the Tomcats with two hits apiece. Liverman tallied three hits for the Titans.
 
Jessica Kelley (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) took the loss. In 7.1 innings, she allowed three earned runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts.
 
Jazmyn Rohrer earned the win. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts.
 
Westminster went on to suffer a 3-1 loss to top-seeded Thomas More in the championship game. By winning the conference championship, Thomas More earned the league's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
 
Kelley and Falce were named to the 2017 PAC All-Tournament Team. Kelley allowed nine earned runs in 20.1 innings in the double-elimination tournament. She also struck out three batters. Falce hit .364 (4-11) at the tournament. She tallied four RBIs and hit a pair of doubles.
