GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team concluded its 2017 season Sunday with a 12-11 Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) loss in overtime to the Thomas More Saints at Alumni Stadium.
Thomas More held a 6-4 lead at halftime, but Thiel opened the second half with three straight goals to take a 7-6 lead.
Lauren Wolfe (Anita, Pa./Punxsutawney) netted the game-tying goal with 23:15 remaining, and
Jennifer Rickens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored the go-ahead goal 32 seconds later on a pass from
Myesha Fisher (Cleveland, Ohio/John Adams).
Thomas More surged ahead 10-8 later in the second half, but the Tomcats pulled off another three-goal run to take an 11-10 lead. Rickens tied it up 10-10 with 5:47 remaining before she assisted on the go-ahead goal by
Samantha Burkhardt (Damascus, Md./Damascus) with 58 seconds left in regulation.
With just two seconds left, however, Saint Erika LaRosa forced overtime when she scored on a free position shot. Tori Liles went on to win the game for the Saints 91 seconds into overtime when she scored on another free position opportunity.
Rickens led the Tomcats with five points (4G, 1A). Burkhardt (2G), Fisher (1G, 1A) and
Paige Scherer (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) (1G, 1A) each tallied two points.
Jeni Hall led the Saints with six goals while Liles netted five goals.
Kyra Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) made 11 saves for the Tomcats while Gillian Casey made 10 saves for the Saints.
Thiel's Burkhardt, Fisher, Rickens,
Kirsten Scott (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson),
Megan Scritchfield (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore),
Megan Williams (Lusby, Md./Patuxent), Wolfe and
Melody Zuniga (Fort Meade, Md./Meade) were recognized prior to the game during Senior Day.
