WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team spilt a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader against Waynesburg University on Saturday afternoon. Thiel took game one 8-6 before dropping the second game 11-4.
Tyler Godwin opened game one as he blasted a homerun to left that scored three to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 advantage after one.
Thiel struggled at the plate only and only collected four hits in the first six inning before exploding for eight runs in the seventh.

Bryan Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan),
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST),
Joe Mott (Kinsman, Ohio/Badger), and each had RBI's in the inning to cut the lead to two runs.
Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) then doubled to right center to score three and gave the Tomcats a 7-5. Fowkes later scored on a throwing error to increase the lead to 8-5 going into the bottom of the seventh.
The Yellow Jackets did not go down quietly as Godwin hit his second homerun of the day with one out to close the lead to two runs. However, Forrester got both of the next batters to ground out to pick up the save.
Nick Bucci (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice) collected his PAC leading eighth win of the year as he pitched six innings and allowed four earned runs.
Game two saw the Tomcats take an early 1-0 lead after one as Patrice singled through the left side to score Mitchell.
Waynesburg answered in the second as Ben Miller hit a grand-slam to left field to regain the lead 4-1 after two.
The homeruns kept coming for the Yellow Jackets in the third as Cameron Bernhardt homered to left to score three to add to the lead to make it 7-1. Josh Hausler singled to add an eighth run as the score stood at 8-1.
In the fourth,
Filippo Costanzo (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) singled up the middle that drove
Nick Grice (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) in before Fowkes doubled to right that scored Costanzo. Thiel still trailed 9-4 after four.
Waynesburg added two runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach for Thiel as game two went to the Yellow Jackets by a final score of 11-4
Thiel (20-15, 12-9 PAC) will return to action on Friday when they take on PAC opponent Washington and Jefferson at Tomcat Park for the first game of a three-game set. The nine-inning game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
