KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Thiel College softball team suffered losses Tuesday to Meredith College and St. John Fisher College during the third day of play in the Diamond 9 Citrus Games at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, Fla.
Thiel fell to the second-ranked St. John Fisher Cardinals 9-1 after losing to the Meredith Angels 13-1.
Jessica Kelley (Sarver, Pa./Freeport),
Alana Callahan (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and
Alexa Fike (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) went 1-for-2 at the plate against the Angels. Fike drove in a run for the Tomcats in the fourth inning on a single to center field, which brought home Callahan.
Madison Fullmer (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) absorbed the loss. She struck out two batters in four innings. Julia Cerasi earned the win. She struck out a pair of batters and allowed one earned run.
A.J. Corradi (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and
Vanessa Falce (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) each went 1-for-2 at the plate against the second-ranked Cardinals.
Caitlyn Carney (Lake Milton, Ohio/Jackson Milton) drove in a run for the Tomcats on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
Jessica Kelley (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) took the loss against St. John Fisher. She whiffed three batters over five innings. Monica Moses earned her third win of the season for the Cardinals. She allowed one earned run on two hits.
The Tomcats will resume play in the Diamond 9 Citrus Games at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Thursday. Thiel will face the College of Staten Island at 3:30 p.m. and Emerson College at 5:45 p.m.
