BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Wednesday with a 2-game road sweep over the Geneva Golden Tornadoes. Thiel won the first game 3-0 before earning a 9-4 victory in the second game.
Starter
Kevin Forrester (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) threw a completed game shutout in the first contest. He allowed just two hits and tallied eight strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Nick Grice (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) started the scoring with a sacrifice fly, which scored
Nick Fowkes (New Eagle, Pa./Ringgold) in the top of the second inning.
Matt Hultquist (North Warren, Pa./Warren) and
Daniel Patrice (Munich, Germany/EST) each went on to drive in a run apiece to close out scoring in the first game.
Tomcat batters drove in five runs in the first inning of the second game. Hultquist followed up his strong performance at the plate in Game 1 with three hits and two RBIs in the second game. Grice,
Bryan Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and
Jake Marino (Pittsfield, Pa./Youngsville) also recorded three hits apiece in the second game.
The Tomcats got another strong pitching performance in the second game from Starter
Nick Bucci (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice). He went six innings and allowed just two runs on three hits to improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Tomcats have won six straight games and are 2-0 in PAC play.
Thiel (9-5, 2-0 PAC) will return to action Friday when they take on the Grove City Wolverines on the road. The 9-inning PAC game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
