GREENVILLE, Pa. –
Mackenzie Quinn (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and
Paige Scherer (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) combined for seven goals Tuesday, but it wasn't enough for the Thiel College women's lacrosse team in a 13-9 non-conference loss to the Muskingum Fighting Muskies at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
The Tomcats trailed the Muskies 6-1 roughly eight minutes into the contest. Thiel responded with four consecutive goals, two from Quinn and one apiece from Scherer and
Erica Auberzinski (Odenton, Md./Arundel), to get back into the game.
The two teams exchanged goals late in the first half, and Muskingum held on to a slim 7-6 lead at halftime.
Jennifer Rickens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) scored the equalizer for the Tomcats on a pass from
Myesha Fisher (Cleveland, Ohio/John Adams) early in the second half, but the Muskies outdistanced the Tomcats 6-2 over the remainder of the second half to earn the non-conference win.
Quinn scored four goals for the Tomcats while Scherer scored three goals.
Kyra Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) made 15 saves, a few of which kept the Tomcats in the game. Kate Shamel made 10 saves for the Muskies.
Paige Watterman led Muskingum with four goals while Ashley Adams and Kaeleigh Norvet each scored three goals.
The Tomcats will take on the Hiram Terriers on the road Thursday. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
